New Roofs in Bilston

Full re-roofs done properly: stripped to the timbers, new membrane and battens, tiles or slates laid straight, dry ridge as standard. Ten minutes south of our base.

New Roofs for Homes in Bilston

When a Bilston terrace does reach the end of its slate roof, there are two honest routes: re-slate, reusing the sound originals topped up with matching reclaimed, or recover in a fibre cement slate that keeps the look for less. Either way the roof comes back on over new breathable membrane and treated battens, with the party wall junctions and shared valleys done carefully because your roof and next door’s are one structure.

We cover Bilston and the surrounding area: Bradley, Stowlawn, The Lunt, Bunker’s Hill, Portobello and beyond (WV14).

What’s Included

The postwar estates re-roof more conventionally, strip, membrane, batten, new concrete tiles, dry ridge and verge. On any Bilston re-roof we survey the chimneys first, because on housing this age the stack is nearly always the next failure and the scaffold makes it cheap to sort at the same time.

  • Stripped to the rafters, timbers checked and repaired
  • Breathable membrane and treated battens throughout
  • Concrete tile, clay tile, natural or fibre cement slate
  • Dry ridge and dry verge systems as standard
  • New lead flashings, chimney work while the scaffold is up
  • Waste cleared daily, site left tidy

★★★★★
“10/10 ! From start to finish the job was outstanding! They arrived on time, explained every step clearly, and completed the work to a very high standard. The new roof looks fantastic and has already made a noticeable difference to the warmth of the house. Pricing was fair, communication was excellent, and the site was left spotless. I’d happily recommend them to anyone looking for reliable roofing work. Thanks again Jamie!”

New Roofs in Bilston, FAQs

Often, yes. Good Welsh slate lasts far longer than its fixings, so a re-slate salvages the sound originals, makes up the difference with matching reclaimed, and gives you effectively the same roof on modern membrane and battens. We tell you the salvage rate after inspection.

Carefully and ideally with a word to the neighbour first. Shared valleys and party junctions are rebuilt so both sides drain properly, and if next door’s roof is in similar condition, doing the valley as a joint job is cheaper for both houses.

The felt is usually the decider. If the membrane under the tiles has gone brittle and torn across large areas, every repair is temporary because water finds the next tear. Widespread nail failure and constant slipped tiles point the same way. We will tell you straight which category your roof is in, and quote a repair instead if that is the honest answer.

Ridge and hip tiles were traditionally bedded on mortar, which cracks with the seasons and eventually lets tiles come loose. A dry ridge system clamps them mechanically with screws and brackets, allows the roof to breathe, and does not need rebedding every few years. It costs a little more on day one and saves money every year after.

It comes down to the house, the street and the budget. Natural slate looks superb on older houses and lasts generations; fibre cement slate gives a similar look for less; concrete tiles are the workhorse choice. We bring samples and give you prices for each so you can compare properly.
